I can trace my Cornish heritage back to the 17th century and this, together with many happy childhood holidays spent in Cornwall, inspired me to write historical fiction set in St Merryn, Cornwall.
Now living in the vibrant city of Bristol, I love to lose myself in a good book or indulge my passion of history and all things Cornish by delving into the past and bringing it alive for the reader to experience.
I often read archived newspaper extracts from Cornwall's principal county newspaper for inspiration. Dating back to the 1800s, I believe they offer a doorway to the past and reveal how the lives of everyday people were lived. When I read these articles about ordinary people with extraordinary lives, they come alive, they're real people with real stories to tell, sometimes comic, often tragic. I like to think my novels give them a voice.
